  1. Requirements

Concerns about the structural integrity of the main building of Haygrove School were raised in Autumn 2023 and this sent shock waves through the modular and MMC industry. Students in Years 7, 8, and 9 had to start the Autumn Term with remote learning while Year 10 students were hosted at Bridgwater and Taunton College. Year 11 students were relocated on the school site but with no access to specialist classrooms including science labs in an important exam year for them. Quantock Education Trust and Haygrove School were absolutely determined to bring students back to face-to-face learning and Portakabin were engaged via the Department for Education almost immediately to enable that to happen.

  2. Solution

With almost 100 people on site at the project’s peak, the Portakabin team brought in buildings from across its network to realise the bespoke design agreed with the Trust. High quality teaching space was required for a high performing school, and it was needed at pace to replace temporary marquee structures which had been put in place. Thanks to careful planning and despite craning operations taking place throughout wintery conditions, no days were lost to bad weather, meaning Portakabin remained on programme.

We are grateful to Portakabin for providing us with a high-quality temporary solution whilst we continue the journey to a more permanent school on a new site. The classrooms are spacious and fit for purpose, as are the office spaces. Portakabin understood the requirements and delivered on time in a high-pressured situation.
